Introduction to CompEx
Course Outcome
This is an International Training and Assessment Scheme for electrical craft personnel who work or intend to work in potentially explosive atmospheres.
On successful completion of practical and written assessments of each unit, candidates will be awarded a Certificate of Core Competency which carries International recognition among EEMUA members. JT Limited is the awarding body. CompEx is a competency validation initiative, jointly developed by the Engineering Equipment and Materials Users Association (EEMUA) and JT Limited. Based upon the IEC International Standards, primarily IEC 60079 - 10; 14 & 17, the scheme certification body JT Limited, is now accredited by UKAS to ISO/IEC 17024: 2012 to provide certification of persons. The IEC Standards are at the heart of all CompEx delivery to ensure international conformity and harmonisation of safe working practices.
NEC Certificate changing to CSNV from 1st August 2016
Candidate Registration Requirements - Candidates must ensure they complete the CompEx Registration Form fully and provide original certification to the CompEx Centre for centre representatives to validate. All candidates who pass the Core Competency Modules will receive a CompEx Core Competency Certificate, but those candidates who do not provide certificated evidence to the centre that they are qualified as an electrotechnical or mechanical craftsperson, will receive a certification number with CSNV after the number and a note on their certificate stating ‘Electrotechnical or Mechanical Craftsperson Certification Status not verified’ (previously recorded on the certificate as NEC).
This CSNV certification still means the candidate has met the requirements for core competency as defined by the Scheme and allows employers to conduct their own checks on qualifications and experience to ensure the candidate is deployed to tasks they are competent to undertake in the workplace.
